In this era of smartphones, mobile applications have become quite popular. In fact, every major service or tool on the internet, be it a social network or an email service provider, cannot survive without a mobile app. As such, it is natural to see application markets and stores grow at an exponential rate, and new apps being released regularly in stores such as Google Play and Apple App Store.
Recently, Apple’s App Store reached a new landmark: over 100 billion cumulative app downloads. More importantly, revenue generated by the App Store has increased by over 25% as compared to the previous year, and the number of active customers has gone up by 18%.
Looking at the rate at which the mobile user base is expanding, these numbers do not come as a surprise to anyone. However, there is a very strong message in this update: the fact that active clientele has shot up by 18% in just a year shows that there is great potential for revenue generation in the smartphone and tablet application sector.
For App Store, 100 billion plus is indeed a good number to close this year with. If you are an app developer, you should note that during the holiday season, new apps and app updates will not be accepted.
