Cyber attacks around world by Country

Cyber attacks have been increasing on a consistent basis around the world. Some 10-15 years ago, most of these attacks were mere annoying viruses that would corrupt your files or make the computer system unstable. However, today’s malware is way more powerful and capable of seizing control of entire databases or locking computers with some of the strongest encryption methods. The ransomware programs are a case in point.

As modern viruses are becoming more advanced, it’s highly recommended that you stay up to date with the cyberspace. One of the best ways to do that is to frequent blogs and websites that publish news on cybersecurity and online privacy. For instance, SecureThoughts is one of the best cyber portals that you can check out for the latest news in the tech space, in-depth reviews of antivirus programs, background check services, VPN services, etc. Other popular blogs on online security include CSO Online and Infosecurity Magazine.

Today, the governments and corporations have realized the prevalence of cybercrimes and the kind of damage they can do. So, most of them have taken appropriate measures, although some countries are better prepared than others based on the data provided by the International Telecommunications Union. Let’s take a look at the top countries on the list:

United States of America

USA is one of the worst-hit countries when it comes to cyber attacks. However, it understands the gravity of the situation which is why it’s also the home to some of the most reputed cybersecurity firms in the world. In fact, a research commissioned by BT Security that took inputs from 500 IT decision makers in various sectors in the US found that that 40% of them considered cybersecurity a major priority compared to just 20% in Europe and 30% globally (source: risnews).

Canada

USA’s neighbor Canada may like to deal with the problems as peacefully as possible but it understands the importance of security and safety too. This is the reason it’s the second most prepared country against cyber attacks. It’s taken numerous initiatives towards educating the web users and IT firms across the country. Furthermore, the federal government is expected to spend a whopping $1 billion on cybersecurity alone.

Australia

Australia has a huge influence on the blogosphere. It has some of the biggest online stores and blogs of the world, and thus a large number of people can be found visiting top websites for web design jobs and programming jobs here. Since it’s a major market on the web, it’s one of the main targets of the hackers too. Understanding the same, the government has taken necessary measures to protect its citizens and businesses.

One of the noteworthy initiatives taken by the Australian government in the cybersecurity space is the Resilient Sydney: a strategy for city resilience plan which aims to increase cyber preparedness based on the inputs of 33 local councils, 1000 residents, and 100 business and government organizations.

Malaysia

Malaysia was ranked third in the Global Cybersecurity Index in 2017 and it’s easily one of the top countries that have bolstered their defences against cyber attacks. It’s shielded its Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) along the lines of National Cyber Security Policy (NCSP) and increased the utilization of the National Cyber Coordination and Command Centre (NC4), which is one of its biggest security centres designed to confront all kinds of cyber threats in the country.

Oman

Oman has some of the best organization practices against cyber attacks which comprise legal measures, regional and international support, and technical procedures. It prevented over 880 million cyber attacks on the government networks in 2017 as per the ITA Annual Report 2017. It also has a dedicated cybersecurity team called the Oman Computer Emergency Readiness Team (OCERT). It was launched in 2010 to research on cybersecurity and the associated risks that can harm both public and private internet users in the country.
